02 Jan 00 (look at this date 01 02 00. Odd,
heh?)
Hi, Mom and Dave,
I'm back and on fire guard already. That's okay,
though. I've got something for them, too! Not much has happened yet.
I'll show the drill sergeant the MASH picture tomorrow. machine gun week this week
(I think, I hope!). We'll see. Thanks again for a great trip home and all the
wonderful Christmas presents. I have used my CD player in the last few days more
than Robbyn and Kym have used theirs total. As you know I was bumped up to first
class on both flights -- that was nice. So, two more months and I'm coming home
again (I hope). Well, it's getting towards the end of my shift so I'll let you go.
Thanks again for a great time. Love, Chris

Hi, Dad and Barbara,
I've had very little time to actually write but more to call
so I think communication in AIT is shifting. We took the fox class yesterday.
It's a really cool vehicle. I got to bring my camera, too. This week
was pretty cool so far except for our new bitch drill sergeant. She just got out of
Drill Sergeant school and already is a 4-star general (so she thinks). That's all
right, though. We've got something for her, too. Well, I'm in the middle of
cleaning and have almost been caught writing this twice so I don't think I'll push my luck
any further. I'm sending the picture of me on the tank to mom so after you're
through you can trade with her. Love, Chris

Dear Dad and Barbara,
Not much time. Extra classes yesterday and today.
Kind of boring. Hope they get better. Line was too long to call today
-- maybe tomorrow. Just located the information [about graduation] today; it's going
out tomorrow. We blew smoke in the field today. It was fun. Will call
Saturday or Sunday and describe it in detail. Bye for now. Love, Chris

Hi Mom,
No time -- feel guilty for not writing. Gotta go.
I love you. Will call soon. Love, Chris
February 1(?), 2000
Hi Mom and Dave,
Well I missed you guys again! I called Saturday
afternoon and you were MIA. I'll try again this weekend. Pretty nice paycheck
this time. The Army gave me an extra $115 for all the food I ate over Exodus, plus
we received a 4.1% pay raise effective January 1, so there was an extra $160 tacked on to
my normal paycheck. This place is covered with snow. I'll try to send a
picture out (provided it doesn't all melt within the next few days). Not much else
going on here to talk about. Decon classes for the next two weeks, then we go to
CDTF (Chemical Defense Training Facility), the live agent chamber. The worst part
about it is the cold shower you get when you leave. Couldn't be any worse than
taking a shower after Robbyn has finished with her shower/bath/shower/bath/shower...just
kidding. Well, I gotta go for now. I'll talk to you soon. Love, Chris

Hi Dad and Barbara,
How is everything? Things here are going well.
This week is decon, and next week also; and the test is next Thursday. I took
a picture of the snow for you. Very exciting I know but there is really nothing else
to take pictures of around here. I found out the drill sergeant can promote a few
locked-tight E-1s to E-2 at the end of the cycle. I think Stewart and I are both
candidates for the promotion, but we both already made Chemstar so I won't be greedy.
Well I gotta go. I'll talk to you soon. Love, Chris
